Description / Abstract:
FORD ESS-M1A171-B, 1996 Edition, October 1996 - MATERIAL AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR PREVAILING TORQUE NUTS *** TO BE USED WITH FORD WSS-M99P1111-A***
This standard establishes the general dimensional material and
performance requirements for cold or hot formed coarse thread
prevailing-torque type steel hexagon nuts.
DEFINITION.
A prevailing-torque type nut is a nut which is frictionally
resistant to rotation due to a self-contained prevailing-torque
feature, and not because of a compressive load developed against
the bearing surface of the nut.
